MAYERTHORPE, Alta. - A charge of manslaughter has been laid in the death of a woman on a reserve north of Edmonton.

RCMP say Shawna Paul, who was 34, died last weekend on the Alexis Nakota Sioux First Nation from a single gunshot wound.

They say officers found her dead at the scene Sunday morning after getting word about someone being shot inside a vehicle.

Giovanni James Alexis, who is 20, is facing a number of other charges that include criminal negligence causing death and possession of a firearm while prohibited.

Alexis will appear in a Mayerthorpe courtroom this Thursday. (CHED)
