A Châteauguay school board is speaking out, saying it was not informed by police that investigators are looking for a suspect,  who was allegedly luring children with candy.

The New Frontiers School Board issued a release Tuesday, saying its administration has asked the police for an official report on this investigation, and that the school board be notified in the future when incidents of this nature occur.

The school board says it only learned of the alleged incident via Facebook and through media reports.

Châteauguay police have been looking for a suspect since Jan. 15, 2015. He was last seen in the Musical Village area of Châteauguay, trying to entice two children with candy.

Police say they’re looking for a man in his mid-50s with salt and pepper hair. He was driving a newer, 4-door, grey vehicle, possibly a Toyota. He was wearing a long black ski jacket with red sleeves.

The New Frontiers School Board asks parents to talk to their children about the following safety rules:

- Walk in groups whenever possible.

- Never talk to strangers.

- Never approach a stranger’s vehicle.

- Never, for any reason, follow a stranger or get into their vehicle.
