WHL Roundup: Morrissey earns shutout to lead Rockets over Warriors

KELOWNA, B.C. - Edmonton Oilers prospect Leon Draisaitl scored twice and added two assists while Jake Morrissey kicked out 28 shots as the Kelowna Rockets shut out the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-0 on Saturday night in Western Hockey League play.

Tyson Baillie also had a four-point night with two goals for Kelowna (44-9-4). Madison Bowey and Josh Morrissey rounded out the attack.

Zach Sawchenko kicked out 32 shots in goal for the Warriors (22-30-4).

The Rockets scored twice on six power plays while Moose Jaw went 0 for 5.

SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. — Cavin Leth had a pair of goals as the Broncos scored four straight to end the game and beat Spokane.

Jordan Thomson, Tyler Steenbergen and Jake DeBrusk all chipped in for Swift Current (27-24-5).

Riley Whittingham scored seven seconds into the second on the power play while Adam Helewka had the other for the Chiefs (27-25-4).

HURRICANES 5 BLADES 3

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. — Giorgio Estephan struck twice — including once on the power play — as the Hurricanes won their third straight by topping Saskatoon.

Kord Pankewicz and Devan Fafard gave Lethbridge (18-32-6) a 2-0 lead to start the game. Carter Folk would add the other.

Mason McCarty had two goals and an assist to lead the Blades (16-36-3). Nick Zajac also chipped in.

RED DEER, Alta. — Chase Witala scored 1:15 into overtime to lift Prince George over the Rebels.

After falling behind early, the Cougars (23-32-4) answered with goals by Kody McDonald and Zach Pochiro.

Jeff DeWitt scored in the first for Red Deer (28-18-9), with Brooks Maxwell tying it on the power play in the third.

MEDICINE HAT, Alta. — Beck Malenstyn scored the winner in the second period as Calgary edged the Tigers.

Adam Tambellini opened the scoring for the Hitmen (33-18-5) on the power play.

Cole Sanford responded with his league-leading 45th goal of the season for Medicine Hat (36-18-3) in the second.

KAMLOOPS, B.C. — Austin Carroll struck twice in a three-goal third period as Victoria extinguished the Blazers.

Tyler Soy had two goals and an assist, while Alex Forsberg chipped in with the other for the Royals (31-21-4).

Marc McNutty and Matt Needham found the back of the net for Kamloops (22-30-6).

KENNEWICK, Wash. — Zane Jones scored his 27th goal of the season on the power play as Vancouver beat the Americans.

Clayton Kirichenko, Alec Baer, Gage Ramsay, Jackson Houck and Carter Popoff supplied the rest of the Giants (24-30-3) offence.

Lucas Nickles and Justin Gutierrez scored for Tri-City (26-28-3).

THUNDERBIRDS 3 SILVERTIPS 2 (SO)

EVERETT, Wash. — Mathew Barzal tied the game late in the third period and then won it in a shootout as Seattle edged the Silvertips.

Donovan Neuls also scored in the shootout for the Thunderbirds (29-20-7). Scott Eansor opened the scoring on the power play.

Patrick Bajkov and Remi Laurencelle both replied with power-play goals for Everett (35-16-6).
