NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. - A body recovered from Vancouver's North Shore Mountains has been identified as that of a 21-year-old hiker reported missing in early January.

Vancouver police Const. Brian Montague says the body of Liang Jin was recovered Tuesday from Hanes Valley in Lynn Headwaters Regional Park.

He says Jin, also known as Leon Joy, texted his father early on Dec. 31, 2014, saying he was going for a hike but did not indicate a location.

Montague says Jin was reported missing when family members lost contact with him, but extensive searches of the mountains in North Vancouver turned up no sign of the man.

He says Jin's family continued as a result of continued search efforts by Jin's family.

Foul play is not suspected, and Montague says the case has been turned over to the B.C. Coroners Service to determine the cause of death.
