OTTAWA - Statistics Canada says wholesale sales rose 2.5 per cent from November to $55.4 billion in December led by the motor vehicle and parts subsector as well as the miscellaneous subsector.

The agency says higher sales were recorded in six of seven subsectors, representing 80 per cent of wholesale sales.

Sales were up 2.4 per cent in volume terms.

Statistics Canada says the motor vehicle and parts subsector gained 5.5 per cent to $10.1 billion, the largest gain in dollar terms in December.

The miscellaneous subsector gained 6.1 per cent to $7.3 billion.

The machinery, equipment and supplies group was the only subsector to fall as it slipped 0.2 per cent to $11.2 billion.
