WHL Roundup: Rockets hammer Blazers 11-4 for third straight win

KELOWNA, B.C. - Tomas Soustal had two goals and two assists and Josh Morrissey and Rourke Chartier each tacked on a pair of goals as the league-leading Kelowna Rockets pummelled the visiting Kamloops Blazers 11-4 on Wednesday in Western Hockey League play.

Riley Stadel, Lucas Johansen, Devante Stephens, Chance Braid and Joe Gatenby also scored for the Rockets (45-9-4), who have three games in a row, while Leon Draisaitl added three assists.

Collin Shirley struck twice for the Blazers (22-31-6) as Matt Needham and Luke Harrison rounded out the attack.

Kelowna's Jake Morrissey made 24 saves for the win. Conor Ingram started in net for Kamloops but allowed four goals on 12 shots and found himself watching to start the second period. Cole Kehler stopped only 10-of-17 shots in 40 minutes of relief.

The Rockets went 0 for 3 on the power play while the Blazers failed to score on five chances with the man advantage.

GIANTS 3 WARRIORS 2 (OT)

VANCOUVER — Mason Geertsen's second goal of the game came at 3:11 of overtime and Payton Lee made 23 saves as the Giants slipped past Moose Jaw.

Thomas Foster also scored for Vancouver (25-30-3), while Geertsen tacked on an assist for a three-point outing. Tyler Benson chipped in with three helpers of his own.

Spenser Jensen and Jack Rodewald supplied the offence for the Warriors (23-30-5), who got a 29-save performance from Brody Willms.

REBELS 4 BLADES 3

SASKATOON — Josh Mahura and Presten Kopeck scored 1:25 apart in the third period as Red Deer came from behind to defeat the Blades.

Riley Sheen and Wyatt Johnson also scored for the Rebels (30-18-9) as Trevor Martin made 30 saves for the win.

Schael Higson, Amil Krupic and Brett Stovin responded for Saskatoon (17-37-3). Nik Amundrud kicked out 35-of-39 shots in defeat.
