An RCMP helicopter and dozens of officers were called in to disperse an outdoor party in Abbotsford, B.C. that attracted more than 500 young people.

Most of the partiers at a makeshift cabin on Majuba Hill were drunk, police told Global News. About 30 officers from the Abbotsford force and Chilliwack RCMP moved in around 10:30 p.m to stop the crowd from getting even bigger.

“I think the circumstances at 1 a.m. would have been a lot different and a lot more challenging," Abbotsford police Const. Ian MacDonald said in an interview with Global News. The RCMP helicopter threw its spotlight onto the gathering to encourage partiers to leave.

People at the party were between the ages of 14 and 25, said police, who believe word spread through social media.

The backcountry area is secluded but accessible from Chilliwack and Old Yale Road in Abbotsford, according to CBC News.

“I wouldn’t be comfortable as a parent having my teenager partying with adults,” MacDonald told Global. He pointed out the remote area would have proved challenging for emergency crews if there was a medical issue or a large-scale fire.

There were no arrests or injuries, but a rear window of an Abbotsford police SUV was smashed by a rock, reported The Province.

MacDonald also blamed the recent warm weather for making it so tempting for outdoor parties.

"It looked like everybody was pretty wasted, and if not, it looked like everybody was having a pretty good time,” Anthony Van der Linden, 19, told CTV News. He said he had just arrived near the site as the police chopper began flying overhead.

Two weeks ago, an Abbotsford house party thrown by a 14-year-old whose parents were out of town got out of hand. An uninvited 22-year-old guest was arrested after a teenager was punched in the face.

Police suspect 40 to 50 people were at that party.
