Oscars fashion: Fred Lee and Gloria Macarenko's take on the red carpet

The outfits showcased during the 87th Academy Awards set trends for the year to come.

That has already started at CBC Vancouver, where host Gloria Macarenko arrived wearing a black gown with rubber gloves, in a tribute to Lada Gaga's outfit last night.

"Lady Gaga set the pace on the red carpet with her rubber gloves," Macarenko told The Early Edition.

"I thought that's not a bad idea today. When you talk about not passing germs — people doing elbow taps instead of shaking hands. This kind of solves a lot of issues. Just wear rubber gloves."

Macarenko and Man About Town Fred Lee share their highlights from the big night:

Fred's picks

Emma Stone

"She was red carpet ready in that Ellie Saab," said Lee.

Keira Knightley

"I love her dress. It was free flowing,it was a Valentino. It really suited her personality."

Eddie Redmayne

"[He] looked delicious in Alexander McQueen. He really pulled off the blue black combo."

Gloria's Picks

Lupita Nyong'o

"I thought she was stunning in that pearl dress," said Macarenko, but Lee wasn't fully on board.

"I just don't know how she could get down later at all those parties afterwards. I really thought the dress wore her, she didn't wear the dress," he chimed in.

Naomi Watts

"She had the sparkly underpiece. I thought she wore that incredibly well."

Cate Blanchett

"The turquoise necklace, but simple black and she just went for the stunning standout piece."

Scarlett Johansson

"Initially I looked and I said, 'who is that?' With the shaved head on the side, I thought her hair style was out there. In terms of someone who completely changed her look, I thought she wore it well. That emerald green and that beaded necklace piece — I thought she looked pretty cool."
