15 Celebrities Who've Wonderfully Rocked Dreadlocks

The Best Celebrity Dreadlocks

When singer Zendaya arrived at the 2015 Oscars sporting a head full of dreadlocks, she probably didn't expect to get criticised for them (ahem, we're talking to you, Giuliana Rancic).

The 18-year-old responded to comments that her hair looked as though it smelled "like patchouli oil...or maybe weed," like a total pro. In a note posted on Instagram, the "Shake It Up" star explained to the TV host, and the world, that dreadlocks are more than just one aspect of a stereotype.

"To say that an 18 year old young woman with locs must smell of patchouli oil or 'weed' is not only a large stereotype but outrageously offensive," she noted.

She went on to list a few fellow dreadlocked individuals, including singer Ledisi and Harvard University professor Vincent Brown, none of whom smell like weed, obviously.

And so, in honour of Zendaya and her amazing defence, we're here to show you even more celebs who've rocked the hairstyle for themselves. Each star in the list below made the iconic hairstyle their own -- just take a look and see for yourself!

Zendaya brought locs to the Oscars red carpet, showing the world that the hairstyle is more than one aspect of a stereotype. After "Fashion Police" host Giuliana Rancic remarked that they looked as if they smelled like patchouli and "maybe weed," the "Shake It Up" starlet responded like a total pro. You go girl!

Back in the late '90s, Lauryn Hill sported dreadlocks, and they became somewhat of a signature hairstyle for the R&B artist. We loved her locs just as much as we love her music. Can she just make a real comeback now?

Whoopi Goldberg

Whoopi's had dreads for basically ever and we doubt she'll get rid of them anytime soon. "The View" host is her hair, and her hair is her. The two go hand in hand and make a perfect pair.

Not one to shy away from trying new hairstyles, the "Applause" singer opted for extra long bleached dreadlocks back in 2013. And while it's not a look we'd consider for ourselves, we think Gaga pulls it off.

Lil Wayne's dreads have become just about as famous as him, and in short, we love them. Lately, he's been having a little fun with his locs by adding bright colours like red and blue into the mix.

Lisa Bonet popularized her dreadlocked hairstyle back in the '90s and she's still sticking with it to today. Her take on the style is a little more loose and relaxed, with a few braids mixed in, making it super unique. Her daughter, Zoe Kravitz has even been spotted sporting a similar style with braids.
