Melissa Rivers Addresses Mother Joan's Oscars 'In Memoriam' Snub

Joan Rivers' Daughter Addresses Oscars 'In Memoriam' Snub

Many Oscars-watchers were outraged when the awards' yearly "In Memoriam" portion neglected to include legendary funnywoman Joan Rivers on Sunday night.

"Fashion Police" co-host Giuliana Rancic flipped the Academy the bird on Monday for leaving Rivers out.

While she had no official comment earlier this week, Rivers' daughter, Melissa, later addressed the snub in a Facebook post.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had issued a statement earlier regarding the comedian's absence from the segment.

"Joan Rivers is among the many worthy artists and filmmakers we were unfortunately unable to feature in the In Memoriam segment of this year's Oscar show," it read. "She is, however, included in our In Memoriam gallery on Oscar.com."

It appears that Rivers was excluded because she wasn't an Academy member, Bustle discovered.

"On this page the Academy pays homage to those members who have passed away this year," the "Memoriam" page of the Academy website reads.

Rivers wasn't completely forgotten, though. In a segment on E!'s pre-Oscars show on Sunday, her daughter paid tribute to the late "Fashion Police" co-host with a roundup of her most memorable Oscars red carpet moments.

"It's hard to believe it was 20 years ago that my mother and I stood on this very red carpet for the first time," she said. "My mom asked questions that nobody else dared to ask."
