Car Wreck Survivor Films His Own Rescue In B.C. (VIDEO)

He had blacked out while driving and hit a pole at 60 km/h.

When Andrew MacDonald awoke to find himself in a car wreck, he grabbed his phone and started recording his own rescue.

The B.C. man was on his way home to Duncan from Victoria around 5:30 a.m. on Jan. 11 when he "blacked out behind the wheel" and hit a pole while driving at 60 km/h, according to his YouTube post.

MacDonald told CBC News he regained consciousness as firefighters were using the Jaws of Life to get him out.

He decided to start filming, and posted the video to YouTube last week.

The car had gone into a ditch and MacDonald was left with a broken right arm, knee caps, ankles and left femur, the description reads.

The video shows MacDonald smiling at one point as you hear him talking to first responders and the noise of machinery cutting through the roof of his car.

MacDonald underwent 14 hours of surgery and now has screws, staples, and metal plates throughout his body. He spent a month in hospital recovering.

He wrote on YouTube that he was not drinking or doing any drugs before the crash, and the RCMP have not recommended any charges.
