Leonard Nimoy's Hilarious 'Simpsons' Cameos Were Among His Best Moments

Leonard Nimoy was known to most audiences as Spock, the logic-driven, half-Vulcan officer on "Star Trek."

But "Simpsons" fans also remember him for some hilarious appearances he made on the popular animated sitcom.

Nimoy appeared as himself on the series twice.

First, he featured in "Marge vs. the Monorail," a classic season four episode in which he was a celebrity guest on a doomed public transit project in Springfield.

Town mayor Joe Quimby didn't seem to know who he was.

"And let me say, may the force be with you." from 'Marge vs the Monorail'. Season 4, Episode 12.

Nimoy offered deep analysis of the cosmos ...

And at the end, revealed that he may have had more to do with saving Springfield residents than anyone realized.

Nimoy wasn't the first choice to appear in that episode.

Conan O'Brien told Howard Stern this week that he wanted George Takei, but that the actor who played "Star Trek's" Sulu objected to mocking a monorail. Nimoy, however, was totally on board when asked.

He appeared on "The Simpsons" again in "The Springfield Files," an "X-Files" spoof in which he hosted the show as though he were narrating a sci-fi series.

Mr. Nimoy, thank you for entertaining us, for helping us think, and making us laugh. You will be missed, sir.
