TSN Displays Joffrey Lupul-Related Tweet And Sparks Player's Ire

TSN drew the ire of a prominent Toronto Maple Leafs player as it covered the NHL's Trade Deadline Day on Monday.

TSN drew the ire of a prominent Toronto Maple Leafs player during its coverage of the NHL's Trade Deadline Day on Monday.

The broadcaster was rolling tweets that had been posted under the #TradeCentre hashtag when it posted this one on television.

Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul wasn't happy about it.

UPDATE: March 3 -- Lupul, his teammate Dion Phaneuf, and Phaneuf's wife Elisha Cuthbert have threatened a lawsuit against TSN over a tweet displayed on its broadcast, The National Post reported. They have demanded a formal apology and a "significant amount of damages," lawyer Peter A. Gall said. The user who posted the tweet on the social networking website will be sent a similar letter from the law firm.

And it had the network going into damage control soon after.

This isn't the first time that an objectionable tweet has made it on to TSN.

Yahoo! writer Greg Wyshynski pointed out that last year, the network broadcast a tweet suggesting that German-born Edmonton Oilers prospect Leon Draisaitl's nickname should be "The Final Solution."

In a separate story, ex-Oiler Dustin Penner said he pulled out of a spot on TSN's coverage of the trade deadline due to a he made about sexual assault on Twitter. He said he withdrew "because of the position" he put TSN in with his tweet.

Penner also apologized for the tweets themselves.
