Four people are under arrest after police seized 16 litres of a common date rape drug in a town east of Toronto.

Durham Region Police said in a statement on Tuesday that members of the Central West Division Target Team arrested two people after watching a drug transaction in Whitby on Feb. 27. The officers found four litres of the tasteless, odourless drug, called Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (GHB).

The drug, when combined with alcohol, can leave a person unconscious. Bodybuilders also use it to reverse the effects of steroids, according to the statement.

After carrying out two search warrants on a home and a vehicle, police seized a total of 16 litres of GHB, 27.5 grams of marijuana and 5.7 grams of psilocybin, the psychedelic compound found in magic mushrooms.

The total street value of the drugs is $7,700. Police also seized $4,300 in cash.

Kadri Pearce-Lawrence, 22, Daniel Crawford, 29 and Lacey Biggar, 30, all from Whitby, all face multiple drug charges.
