A Toronto man faces 17 charges in connection with a series of alleged robberies and attacks on women working in the sex trade.

Toronto police say they had been investigating a series of incidents that occurred this year, involving sex-trade workers in the Yonge Street and Finch Avenue area, and the Yonge Street and Sheppard Avenue area.

Police say that a male suspect had been arranging dates with women and then sexually assaulting them. Armed robberies had also occurred, according to police.

Over the weekend, police issued a news release saying they had made an arrest in connection with the investigation.

O'Neil Forrester, 19, faces 17 charges, including four counts of sexual assault, two counts of robbery, two counts of forcible confinement, two counts of robbery with a firearm and one count of robbery with a knife.

The accused was arrested last Wednesday. The charges have not been proven in court.

The investigation continues and police say there may be more alleged victims.
