Pedestrian clad in black killed in gathering darkness on Alberta road

GRANDE PRAIRIE, Alta. - A man is dead after he was struck by a vehicle while walking across a road in Grande Prairie, Alta.

RCMP say the 45-year-old pedestrian, who was clad in black clothing, was trying to cross the road around 8:30 p.m. Sunday, about 60 metres from an intersection.

The Grande Prairie resident died in hospital.

His name has not been released.

Police say speed, drugs and alcohol have been ruled out as factors in the accident.

The driver, who remained at the scene, will not be charged.
