Road rage is common in Vancouver, but one driver wasn't even going to come close to getting away with it.
Surprise number one? The violent incident was about to be caught on a dashcam from a vehicle just behind him in the next lane.
Surprise number two? Several Vancouver police officers were a stone's throw away, responding to a separate incident across the street.
In a video posted to YouTube in February, the oblivious driver gets out of his vehicle in the middle of traffic, walks up to a car in front of him — and punches the other driver through his open window.
Witnesses then step in, with one blocking the raging man from leaving, while another bystander appears to alert the police. The suspect was eventually led away in handcuffs.
The 26-year-old has now been charged with assault, according to CTV News.
Norman Rydings said he heard yelling and screaming beside company van, and then saw the suspect take a swing at the driver.
Rydings said he got out of his vehicle to try and defuse the situation. A former hockey captain, Rydings said he just followed his instinct and stuck up for somebody who was in need.
"We got lucky with a cop just nearby, so it's funny how that is, when you need a cop, he's right there," he said.
Dashcams are increasingly recording aggressive driving in the Vancouver area. Last December, a driver was caught blatantly running through a red light in the city's downtown.
Vancouver police Sgt. Randy Fincham advised that anyone who sees erratic or aggressive driving to report the behaviour to police.
