What Satellites Are Watching Us Right Now? (VIDEO)

Still here? Good. NASA's Scientific Visualization Studio put together this handy-dandy video showcasing all of the different satellites they have up in orbit, observing and documenting what's going on on Earth.

These flying metallic contraptions send back all sorts of data -- from light pollution to soil moisture to tropical rainfall measurements -- and it's almost mesmerizing to see them move in their various orbits.

Almost 650 kilometres overhead in low-Earth orbit, these 18 spacecraft are constantly taking pictures and collecting data. They circle the planet once every hour and a half, totaling about eight orbits in the 12 hours elapsed in the animation.
