RED DEER, Alta. - RCMP say a woman has been charged with assault and attempted murder in the stabbing of a nurse at a central Alberta hospital.

The nurse was attacked on Friday at Red Deer Regional Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Meghan Claire Dion, who is 34, was arrested on Sunday by police who found her in a vehicle they say was stolen.

Authorities have identified the nurse as Dion's mother.

Dion was to appear in Red Deer provincial court Tuesday.

She is to appear again on Thursday to face charges related to breaching a non-contact order earlier this year.
