Two of Canada's biggest social media stars, tennis player Eugenie Bouchard and singer Justin Bieber, teamed up on Tuesday for a charity tennis match at the annual Desert Smash event in California, raising money for cancer research.

Combined, the two of them have 62 million Twitter followers: Bieber has 61.3 million and Bouchard has a 442,000.

Bouchard is getting ready for the Indian Wells tournament, also in California. The tournament starts on Wednesday but Bouchard has a first-round bye.

That made it possible for her to hit a few backhands with her celebrity popstar crush, Biebs, and practice a few volleys with actors Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart.

Bouchard's crush on Bieber first became public during an awkward on-court interview at the 2014 Australian Open.

As for the results of the mixed doubles match between Bouchard-Bieber and Hart-Ferrell, they weren't made available.

It's also unclear if Bouchard asked Bieber to twirl.

Meanwhile, Bieber's performance in the tennis match seems to dispell any rumours of his demise.
