Coquitlam RCMP are appealing for witnesses after a 12-year-old girl reported an attempt to lure her into a car while she was walking home from school Tuesday.

RCMP say the man offered the girl an iPod or iPad if she would get into his car.

Police say the girl refused and kept walking and lost the man after he was held up by a red light at Austin Avenue and Mariner Way.

She arrived home unharmed and told her mother what happened.

"The girl did everything right," said Cpl. Jamie Chung. "She refused the man's offer. She stayed away from the car. She got home as quickly as she could and told her mom right away."

As a result, Chung says police were immediately involved in the case. However they have not found anyone matching the man's description.

Police say he is:

- A Caucasian male between 35 and 40 years of age,

- Stubble on his face,

- Balding with blondish brown hair on the sides, and

- Wearing a t-shirt.

His car is described as a:

- A white, four-door sedan,

- Grey "leathery" interior,

- Some dirt on the exterior, and

- Garbage and clutter inside the car.

Chung says investigators have not any any other reports of similar incidents.
