MISSION, B.C. - An inmate serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder is missing from a minimum-security prison in British Columbia's Fraser Valley.

Correctional officials say staff at the Mission Institution could not find 43-year-old Shawn Merrick during a count on Tuesday.

RCMP have since issued a warrant for his arrest.

Merrick's tattoos include skulls on his left upper arm, a heart with the name "Jade" on his right upper back, a dragon on his right upper arm and a skull on the left side of his chest.

He also has scars on his right forearm and neck.

Merrick was convicted of the 2006 second-degree murder of Shelley Lynn Devoe in Coquitlam.

Correctional officials say Merrick has also served time for robbery and drug offences.
