Costco and Sobeys recall cooked chicken salads over Listeria concerns

Costco, Sobeys and IGA have issued recall warnings for cooked chicken salads with best-before dates from April 3 to April 5 due to possible contamination from Listeria monocytogenes.

Costco is recalling roasted chicken salad bearing the Kirkland Signature brand and Sobeys and IGA are recalling various in-store prepared salads.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency issued the recalls today.

The Costco Kirkland Signature salads were sold in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Newfoundland.

The Sobeys and IGA chicken salads were sold at retail locations in B.C., Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba.

Sobeys and IGA are recalling the following products.

The CFIA says recalled products should be thrown out or returned to the store.

Foods contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, according to the agency.

Consuming Listeria-contaminated food can lead to listeriosis, which can cause a high fever, severe headache, a stiff neck and nausea. Pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk

No illnesses have been reported.
