Happy National Tartan Day!
On April 6, Canada celebrates the contributions of the Scottish and their descendants in the country with pipe bands, highland dancing, sports, and of course, plenty of tartan.
The checkered pattern hailing from the Highlands is often found on Scottish kilts, but has been a favourite textile of the fashion world for quite some time now.
English punks adopted the print in the 1970s as a way of challenging authority by using a textile that had become twee and tained by association with the establishment.
The late Alexander McQueen famously created two tartan collections during his career as a reference to his own Scottish heritage, as well as to Scotland's turbulent political history. One of the dresses was worn by Sarah Jessica Parker to the 2006 Met Gala, and remains one of her most memorable looks yet.
This year's CFDA Fashion Icon award winner, Pharrell Williams, had a tartan-themed wedding, while Gwen Stefani has adopted the pattern as one of her signature looks.
And who could forget Cher Horowitz's tartan on tartan ensembles in "Clueless?"
So in honour of National Tartan Day, we've rounded up 15 of our favourite tartan looks on celebrities.
Check (pardon the pun) them out below!
