Modcloth Features Its First Transgender Model In New Campaign

Rye Silverman Is The Style Icon We All Need

ModCloth is embracing diversity in a beautiful way.

First, they became the first fashion company that pledged to stop Photoshopping models, and now, they're making strides with the LGBTQ community.

The online retailer, known for their fun and flirty frocks, recently put their #fashiontruth spotlight on a woman named Rye Silverman -- a transgender individual who believes that style is all about expressing, and being, yourself. The stand-up comedian and writer stars in a collection of images on the site, each of which show off her unique style.

“I waited years for someone to tell me that it was okay to be myself before I realized that someone was me.” Community...

Silverman has been a regular contributor to the site's Style Gallery (an evolving collection of community outfit photos), and she even has a dress named after her, so it seems only natural that she appears on the site in a more official way.

It's so great to see a fashion brand like ModCloth including individuals like Rye on their site and in their imagery; we're firm believers that women like Rye make great role models for confidence and self-expression and we always want to see more of them.

But Rye wasn't always so confident in herself and her style. In fact, when she posted her first outfit of the day photo on ModCloth, she admits she felt a little defeated. Speaking to the retail site, she explained:

I was looking for the featured blogger pages, and when I found the Style Gallery, I decided to see what would happen if I uploaded a picture. It took a couple of days to post, and I kind of felt defeated for a moment, like I’d been rejected — but then it posted, and I got really addicted to doing my OOTD shots. The Style Gallery did so much for me in regards to really gaining confidence to both assert my own style, as well as take risks and chances and draw inspiration. Everyone on there is doing so much fun stuff with their clothes, and it’s great to be part of that.

We love that she's using style as a form of self-expression and think she's an inspiration to anyone who lives life in their own creative way.

So, in honour of Rye's unabashedly unique style, we're sharing a few (of many) reasons we think she might just be the style icon we need right now.
