Police in Burnaby, B.C., say a 36-year-old man was stabbed in the leg in an apparently random attack by one or two other men in the Metrotown Mall food court just after 6 p.m. PT, Tuesday.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Major John Buis said the victim, who was taken to hospital with serious but not life-threatening injuries, is not co-operating with the investigation and may have mental health issues.

Officers are now reviewing surveillance tape from the mall and interviewing witnesses, he said.

"I know there were quite a few people in that food court area. We are interviewing those people and we are very thankful people did come to the assistance of this person," said Buis.
