Poznikoff leads Edmonton thunder over Moncton Rockets at Esso Cup

RED DEER, Alta. - Alexandra Poznikoff had a goal and an assist to pace the Edmonton Thunder to a 4-1 win over the Moncton Rockets in Esso Cup round robin action on Wednesday.

Kimberley Huisman, Alison Barnett, and Raylene Emerson also scored for Edmonton (2-2 with an overtime win) at the Canadian national women's midget hockey championship.

Faith Steeves replied for the winless Rockets (0-4), who were outshot 53-16.

Tracie Kikuchi made 15 saves for the victory. Moncton's Brianne Waterman stopped 49 shots.

Round robin play continues Thursday.

CAPITALS 4 LADY WOLVES 1

Mekaela Fisher had two goals and two assists as Central Plains topped Sudbury to hand the Lady Wolves their first loss of the tournament.

Sheridan Oswald scored once and set up two more for the Capitals (2-2 with an overtime loss). Emily Upgang rounded out the attack with a goal and a helper.

Karli Shell scored for Sudbury (3-1).

STARS 3 CHIEFS 2

Kalista Senger scored a tiebreaking goal in the third period as Saskatoon edged host Red Deer.

Sophie Shirley had a goal and an assist for Saskatoon (3-1) and Grace Shirley added the other Stars' goal.

Carley Wlad and Kaitlan Linnell scored for the Chiefs (2-2).
