The Birth Of A Princess Could Bring Billions In Profit To Britain

The Next Royal 'Spare' Could Earn Britain $1.5 Billion, But Only If It's A Girl

The pressure's on for Prince William and Kate Middleton's next little bundle of joy and he or she hasn't been born yet!

Professor Joshua Bamfield of the Centre for Retail Research says the next royal baby is likely to help bring in billions to the country. According to the Telegraph, the birth of Prince George boosted the British economy by £247 million in 2013. And while audience excitement is a little lower for the birth of baby number two, the arrival of a princess could mean more money the second time around.

Bamfield believes a baby girl could inject £150 million – with fashion retailers benefiting the most. “I think there will be an immediate boost of around £80 million when the baby is born, with around £20-£25 million spent on souvenirs and the rest on food and drink such as cake and sparkling wine," Bamfield told the newspaper.

And it makes sense. Kate Middleton herself has garnered a lot of attention over her outfits, often causing stores to sell-out of pieces she's been photographed wearing. Even Prince George has become a fashion icon in his own right.

But the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge haven't confirmed if they are expecting a boy or a girl despite the fact that bookies have placed most of their bets on a baby girl named Alice.
