More than 175 countries around the world provide paid maternity benefits and leave, according to a 2012 study published by McGill University's Institute for Health and Social Policy. Among them Mauritius, Libya and Saudi Arabia, where women still require a male guardian and are barred from driving cars.
The United States, however, is not on that list. Instead, it is part of a select group of nations with no parental leave provisions. But, as you'll see from the other members of this group, it is by far the most egregious example.
