Three federal ridings in Ontario will hold by-elections on Oct. 19, the fixed election date, to fill the departures of two Conservative MPs and one NDP MP, Elections Canada has announced.

The riding of Ottawa West-Nepean has been vacant since March when former Conservative cabinet minister John Baird officially resigned his seat.

Baird had told the House of Commons in early February he was leaving politics for private industry.

Peterborough has not had a federal representative since November when former Conservative cabinet minister Dean Del Mastro resigned his seat, which came after he was convicted of breaking election laws.

While Former NDP MP Glenn Thibeault announced in December he would cross the floor to join Kathleen Wynne and the Ontario Liberal Party, leaving the Sudbury seat open.

The announcement on Sunday could provide a hint about the federal election day, as experts believe Oct. 19 will bring all Canadian voters to the polls since it's the last possible day for the 2015 election.
