The remains of Jessica Rae Newman, a Calgary woman who has been missing for nearly two months, were found near Airdrie Monday, her family has confirmed.

Newman's mother, Ronda Stewart, told CBC News that she was notified by RCMP of the discovery Monday night.

"I was hoping that she was found alive and well, but I at least don’t have to worry about her being in pain or restrained somewhere and not able to get away," Stewart told the Calgary Sun from her home in B.C.

Newman, 24, was last seen the evening of March 10 in the the Calgary community of Forest Lawn.

Police have not confirmed the remains, which were discovered by a work crew Monday afternoon, belong to Newman. However, an autopsy is currently underway.

Last month, Calgary police issued a request for anyone with information about the case to come forward.

"Jessica's case is not going away," the statement said.

Stewart told Global News her heart aches for everyone involved.

“You feel bad for the poor guy who found her, you feel bad for the young policeman that had to come tell me last night, and then all of her family and friends.”
