CHARLOTTETOWN - The Prince Edward Island government has delayed the opening of some campgrounds because of snowy and wet conditions.

Minister of Tourism and Culture Robert Henderson says the campgrounds at Brudenell River Provincial Park and Mill River Provincial Park were supposed to open next Friday, but will now open on May 22.

Henderson says some areas of the campgrounds are still snow-covered and where there isn't snow, the ground is saturated.

The department says the province's remaining provincial campgrounds will open on either June 5 or 12.

Meanwhile, the province is asking people to use caution on the Confederation Trail over the coming weeks, as it was damaged in several areas over the winter.
