Wee Princess Charlotte is not even two weeks old yet, but her grandfather Prince Charles has big plans for her — namely, as his caretaker in his golden years.
As the Prince of Wales (and the first in line to the throne) told a crowd in Dorchester, Dorset, during his first appearance since the princess was born last Saturday, "I was hoping for a grand-daughter — someone to look after me when I am very old," reports the Daily Mail.
While the paper reports Prince Charles, 66, was beaming with pride, it is quite the contrast to his comments after the birth of Prince George, of whom he simply said he was, "pleased as punch," reported the Mirror at the time.
Of course, Prince George is the one directly in line for the throne (and therefore, eventually charged with more national responsibility), but the statement does seem rather significantly traditional, especially in light of the Crown's succession changes from 2013. That law states that males no longer take precedence over their sisters to take the throne — so, as BritRoyals.com points out, Princess Charlotte will remain the fourth in line to the crown (her current position), even if she has a younger brother.
Considering Princess Charlotte's mother, the Duchess of Cambridge, identifies her own job as "princess," it's fair to assume the young royal will have her own duties as she grows up. And while tending to the future king might sound vaguely interesting, we're honestly hoping that the young lady is out there changing the world instead.
