Old School Parenting Rules That Should Make A Comeback

Old School Parenting Rules That Should Make A Comeback

Parenting can be really difficult. Which rule book do you follow?

According to Ylonda Gault Caviness, the author of "Child, Please: How Mama’s Old-School Lessons Helped Me Check Myself Before I Wrecked Myself," sometimes our own moms know best.

"My mama's main thing, and I think her generation.. her thing was, 'I'm not studying you', that's what she'd say. It's an old Southern term, but it really basically means I'm really not thinking about you. It's quite the opposite of what we do now, because we obsess over our kids. We're thinking about them all the time," she says in an interview with HuffPost Live.

Parents used to be more concerned with raising their kids than making them happy, which is an impossible goal, she says.
