3 friends plan epic kayak journey from Montreal to Mexico

It started off as a joke, but then they realized it was actually possible.

Three 26-year-old friends from Île Perrot, Que., are planning to kayak from Montreal's Old Port all the way to Mexico.

Julien Granger, Luc Labelle and Nuka De Jocas-McCrae will begin paddling this Saturday, heading first to Lake Champlain and then south along New York's Hudson River.

They plan to travel along the eastern coast of the United States until they reach the tip of Yucatan, in southeastern Mexico.

The journey is more than 9,000 km, and they estimate it will take about 15 months.

Along with tents, sleeping bags and some clothes, they are packing enough food into their kayaks to last 10 days. Then they will replenish their stock.

They recently met with MylenePaquette. who crossed the North Atlantic on her own in 2013, so they could get some advice.
