In a classy move, the Detroit Red Wings announced Friday that they would honour the late Cap Geek founder by renaming their Prospect Tournament trophy the Matthew Wuest Memorial Cup.

The Canadian sports journalist lost his two-year battle with colon cancer in March at the age of 35.

Wuest, a native of Stanley, N.B, also developed and maintained RedWingsCentral.com and contributed multiple articles to Detroit's training camp programs.

The Red Wings are recognizing Wuest for his efforts to grow the tournament into a premier NHL event and his contribution to the hockey community at large.

His popular Cap Geek website provided a database of hockey statistics, information on player salaries and salary cap spending. It ceased operation in January, 2015 due to Wuest's worsening condition.
