MIRAMICHI, N.B. - A new nursing home with 240 beds will be built in Miramichi, N.B., to replace two existing facilities.

It will replace the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home and the Miramichi Senior Citizens Home, which have 214 beds combined.

The provincial government says a public-private partnership will be used to build the new home.

Transportation and Infrastructure Minister Roger Melanson says the private sector will be responsible for designing, building, financing, owning and operating the home based on the province's nursing home standards.

The province is also planning to repair doors and windows at the Mount St. Joseph Nursing Home, along with upgrades to the building's fire protection, plumbing and ventilation systems, until the new home is built.
