EDMONTON - An Edmonton-area family will have to say goodbye to their pet pot-bellied pig after a last-ditch effort to save the animal failed.

On Friday, Strathcona County was granted a court injunction to force Michelle Kropp and her family to remove the pig from their home.

The family will have three months to find the black-and-white porker a new home.

David Churchill of Strathcona County says they appreciate it's a difficult time for the family, but the bylaws must be enforced.

Rory Ziv, the Kropps' lawyer, says he knows his clients will be disappointed.

He says a bylaw review is scheduled for this fall and he hopes the county will change its mind about allowing pot-bellied pigs as pets.

Ziv says Eli will likely be sent to Ontario, but couldn’t say where.
