Child luring report prompts Ridge Meadows RCMP investigation

Ridge Meadows RCMP are asking for the public's help in locating a suspicious man and truck involved in a possible child luring incident.

The man allegedly called out to a young child from behind the wheel of a black pickup truck on Ritchie Avenue near 228 Street — directly behind a McDonald's restaurant — on Tuesday night around 6 p.m. PT.

"There were a group of children out near the street, and police have received a report alleging the man in the truck called out to one of the children. This frightened the child, who ran to a neighbour's home as she did not recognize the man," said Cst. Amanda Harnett in a statement.

"The male did not get out of the truck, or make any physical attempt to make contact with the child, but police would like to speak with the male to understand his intentions."

He is described as a 50- to 60-year-old South Asian male with a red turban and a grey beard. The truck he was driving is a newer model with an extended cab.

Police are asking the man — or anyone with information on who he is — to call them at 604-463-6251.
