NDP Leader Tom Mulcair is set to publish an autobiography just weeks before this year's federal election is expected to be called.

Mulcair's memoir will be released on Aug. 1 and is to be titled "Strength of Conviction."

The publisher, Dundurn Press, says the book will tell the story of Mulcair and his 35 years in the public service in Canada, most of that time spent in Quebec.

The book will be simultaneously published in both English and French.

While Mulcair is a well-known entity in Quebec, the party has long said he has work to do to be better known throughout the country. The announcement comes on the heels of a number of polls that put the NDP in the running to form the next government.

Mulcair is not the only politician to release a book in order to help his political fortunes.

Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau released a memoir called "Common Ground" in October of last year. And journalist John Ibbitson's biography of Prime Minister Stephen Harper is also set to be published at the beginning of September.
