Downtown Vancouver is going to be more chaotic than usual Thursday morning with a "mystery organizer" promising to give away 300 piggy banks with up to $1,000 cash inside.
A news release from an unidentified group says Vancouverites will be invited to take a piggy bank from inside a house built for the giveaway between 7-9 a.m. on the corner of Georgia and Thurlow.
"People are facing pretty hefty housing costs in the city and we want to give them a bit of a break — a little extra to help with other important financial goals," said the release. "Tomorrow morning it might be $5 for their morning coffee, but it could be $100, $200 or even $1,000. We want people to start thinking about the larger picture of their financial wellbeing."
The event is promoting the Twitter hashtag #VancouverGetsIt.
One of the first people to use the hashtag was Don Coulter, CEO of Coast Capital Savings.
This appears to be different from the envelopes of $100 bills that an anonymous businessman was hiding around Vancouver last year.
