Campbell River RCMP arrest 17-year-old in teen's death

Campbell River RCMP have arrested a 17-year-old youth in connection with the death of an 18-year-old man.

S/Sgt. Troy Beauregard says RCMP were called to the 500 block of Hilchey Road just before midnight Saturday.

An 18-year-old man was rushed to hospital from that location where he was pronounced dead despite paramedics' efforts to resuscitate him.

Shortly after the call, Beauregard says police identified and arrested a 17-year-old youth.

"This was not a random act of violence and the suspect and victim were known to each other," said Beauregard in a statement.

RCMP aren't saying how the 18-year-old died or why the 17-year-old was arrested in connection with his death.

"The investigation is actively being pursued, as such no further details will be able to be released at this time," said the police statement.
