CALGARY - A man has been charged in the sexual assault and assault of two children in foster care at a home in southeast Calgary.

Police say an elementary-school-age girl told her teacher in February that a man providing her with foster care had sexually touched her on more than one occasion.

She also reported that the same man had assaulted another child in his care.

An elementary-school-age boy living in the same house told detectives that he had been physically assaulted and shut in a dark room before being placed outside in winter weather without clothes.

Staff Sgt. Melanie Oncescu said Tuesday there were six children in the home — four foster kids and two biological children

Siksika Family Services immediately removed all foster children from the residence upon hearing of the allegations.

Police say Fortunato Jinon, 46, is charged with assault, sexual assault and sexual interference with a child under 16 years of age.

He is to appear in court July 2.

Police say the operators of the home have been suspended.

Oncescu says the children are being provided with all the support they have access to through Child and Family Services.
