The officer fired his gun while trying to make an arrest in the town of Gibbons on Friday afternoon. No one was hurt.
RCMP released more details this weekend about the incident, which saw the RCMP pursue a vehicle through Gibbons, Westlock and Barrhead.
A young man, of no fixed address, is charged with possession of stolen property, theft of a vehicles, hit and run, failure to stop for police, resisting arrest, dangerous driving, and several firearms and traffic offences. He is also charged with assaulting a police officer with a weapon.
He will appear in Morinville Provincial Court on June 11. Police allege he was the driver. Two other people were released from custody with no charges.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT), which investigates all police-related shootings in the province, is reviewing the incident.
