2 police officers injured as active shooter situation unfolds in Edmonton

An area of west Edmonton has been cordoned off after a police officer was shot in the back and another was injured just after 8 p.m. Monday.

One of the officers sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound and is expected to survive. The condition of the second officer is not known at this point. 

At least three dozen police cars are in the area of 184th Street and Calllingwood Road. Three ambulances and fire trucks are standing by. Heavy smoke can be seen from a fire.

Police are telling people to keep away from the area and stay in their homes as the shooter is still active.

One officer issued a message on Twitter.
