Car theft ring in Montreal, Laval broken up

Police in the Greater Montreal region say they've dismantled a stolen-car ring operating in the Montreal and Laval areas.

About 100 officers from Montreal, Laval and neighbouring forces carried out arrest warrants this morning. They arrested 10 people.

Police say the ring targeted Toyota and Lexus vehicles.

"They take the car, and then they leave it to make sure there's no GPS in it," said Laval police Const. Jolyane Ledoux. "Then [they strip it for] parts, or they send it elsewhere."

Ledoux says investigators have evidence of 35 stolen vehicles, but police believe there were many more.

The suspects will appear in court today or tomorrow and are expected to be charged with motor vehicle theft and possession of stolen goods.
