One person has died after a car hit several pedestrians near the Yonge Street and Empress Avenue intersection Thursday afternoon.

Paramedics say that four people were transported to hospital, two with serious injuries and two with minor injuries.

They say all they know at this point is that one car struck several pedestrians.

Police had earlier reported that one person was not breathing and that two others were unconscious.

According to police, one person was bleeding from the head but was conscious and breathing. The driver, they say, remained on the scene.

Yonge Street has been closed from Empress Avenue to Elmwood Road.
