Canada's Instagrammers do a great job capturing this country's natural beauty and diversity. Each week we feature one of the country's best Instagrammers.
This week we chat with one of Montreal's best Instagrammers, Montrealismes. Here he is in his own words:
I'm a 25 years old architecture photographer in Montréal. My instagram feed is centered around Montreal urban life, interiors, architecture and other regions of Québec. (Here you can see tiny me in an abandoned quartz mine in Gatineau. The picture is from summer 2014).
What inspires me the most to take photos is usually light and shapes. The way light falls depending on the time of the day can make your subject look drastically different and interesting. Shapes are also something that's very powerful and that sometimes dictates what I find interesting to photograph. Another thing that really inspires me is extreme weather conditions as you see in this picture taken in Mont Tremblant.
I try to focus on shooting pictures that have strong graphic elements. People browsing instagram are doing it on very small devices so pictures that are very graphic tend to work very well and are typically a bit more successful than others
This picture was taken during a casual photowalk last summer. When I saw the combo of the orange westfalia parked right in front of an equally orange backdrop, and the nice staircases, I thought that was a perfect scene. I knew right then that I had to capture that. I ended up using a slightly different angle than this one.
This picture was taken this winter. It is a view of the Port de Montréal taken from the top of the Jacques-Cartier bridge. I always wanted to capture that view during a snowstorm and this year I finally had time to do it! Despite the -25 degrees, strong winds, snowed-in sidewalks and the fact that the bridge is closed to pedestrians during winter, I think the end result was well worth it!
Lately I've been quite inspired by @nicholasdyee and @ceeesk. Their styles are completely different, but i find them inspiring in their own respective ways. Nicholas is amazing at capturing huge landscapes and succeeding at communicating just how vast these places are. I really like Celia's work for how constant she is in her approach to photographing her subjects. Always very clean, minimal and graphic compositions.
