One dead after collision; westbound Gardiner closed

A man is dead after the car he was driving went out of control on the westbound Gardiner expressway and struck a pole early this morning.

Toronto Police were called to the Gardiner at 3:05 am near Royal York Road.  The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The car had struck a light pole. 

Police say that speed was a major factor in the collision and a toxicology report will determine if alcohol was a factor.

The colilsion closed the westbound Gardiner from South Kingsway to Islington Ave. for about seven hours Saturday morning.
