Montreal police say they have dismantled a major cocaine distribution ring on Tuesday after carrying out nine raids in the Montreal area.

With the help of Laval police and the Sûreté du Québec, officers raided seven locations in Montreal, one in Laval and one in Vaudreuil-Dorion.

They seized 1.7 kilograms of cocaine, $70,000 in cash, seven guns, ammunition and a bulletproof vest.

Police made 12 arrests. The suspects are expected to appear in court on Wednesday to be charged with drug trafficking, possession of weapons and conspiracy.
